Signs That Your Vehicle May Need Air Conditioning Repair Services

Spring is the perfect time to test out your car's air conditioning system and ensure everything is working properly. If there is a problem, this gives you time to have the issue repaired prior to hot summer temperatures hitting. Your air conditioning not kicking on or cooling your sign is one of the tell-tale signs that automotive repair to your air conditioning system is needed, but it is not the only sign of air conditioning issues. Here are a few of the other signs that your vehicle may give you if automotive air conditioning repairs are needed.

You Hear Squealing or Screeching Noises When You Turn on Your Car's Air Conditioner

Your air conditioning system uses a series of belts to operate the compressor and fan. Extremely hot or extremely cold weather can make these belts brittle, which in turn, can cause them to lose their elasticity and/or break. When you run your air conditioner for the first time, you may hear squealing, screeching, or whirring sounds. These sounds are most commonly associated with air conditioning belts that need to be replaced.

You See Refrigerant Under Your Car After Running the Air Conditioning

Another sign that indicates that your vehicle may need automotive repair for an air conditioning problem is a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant is the substance your car uses to cool hot air. If your car runs out of refrigerant, it will be unable to cool air at all. But, you may be able to tell that a leak is present, allowing you to get your car fixed before that happens. If you notice a small puddle of fluid that is not colored and has a greasy feel to it under the hood region of your car after running the air conditioning unit, you may have a refrigerant leak.

Your Air Conditioning System Does Not Smell Right When It Is Running

The final sign that your vehicle may need air conditioning repair services is a scent that is not quite right when you run your air conditioning unit. You can experience a wide array of scents, including a mildew-like scent, a vinegar-like scent, or even a metallic or electric scent if your air conditioning unit needs repairs. The scents may vary based on the air conditioning problem you are experiencing. If you smell a scent that is not normal for your car when the air conditioning unit is running, bring your car in for automotive repair.

It is very common to need automotive repair for air conditioning problems. Your car's air conditioning system is made up of many different components, including a compressor, belts, and fans. If even one of these is damaged or stops working, your system may not cool as well as it should, or cool your car at all. During the spring months, you should attempt to run your car's air conditioning system and ensure everything works. If you notice any screeching or squealing, see refrigerant leaking from under the car, or smell scents that just do not seem normal, you may want to bring your car to an auto repair shop to have the air conditioning system repaired before the hot summer weather hits.
